Updated the review with the info and details about the new handle. As usual, Stefan Keller made the handle, Dave Martell installed it and cleaned up scratched back of the knife. Looks like a completely new knife :) Much better looking at that. The most gorgeous looking Aritsugu A-Type gyuto of them all for sure.

After rehandling procedure, the promised review update with the details regarding the new handle. As usual, the handle was made by Stefan Keller, rehandling was done by Dave Martell. Madagascar Rosewood handle with reconstituted coral! Sounds very complicated, never ever heard of those materials either, but looks nice and works well, so it's all good ;)

Updated the review with the data for the new handle from Sfetan, which was rehandled by Dave Martell as usual. Besides looking so much better, I really like octagonal handles for using, plus I get better handle materials and denser wood, which always is a plus, at least to me.

Watanabe Miroshi Deba and Aritsugu Kamagata Usuba. Both handles made by Stefan Keller, both were rehandled by Dave Martell. Needless to say they look beautiful and whole lot better than with the original ho wood handles. Images are coming soon, if my hangover isn't too bad this weekend.

Last weekend posted the photos of the rehandles knives, forgot to report that here. Aritsugu A-Type 270mm gyuto and Watanabe 85mm Ko-Deba reviews were updated with the new images as well. Handles by Stefan Keller, and rehandling by Dave Martell. Enjoy ;)

Sadly, benchmade discontinued M2 steel blades. Back then the official hardness was 60-62HRC. Few monthsago I've asked Phiol Wilson to reharden my EDC, Benchmade 710 HSSR, M2 blade in short. The results were just spectacular. The edge is pretty much twice as thin now and holds better then back then when it was ~60HRC. Since Nimravus is one of my favorite user knives I've decided to reharden those as well, although I have to sacrifice Boron Carbide coating on both knives. It's a shame to have M2 steel knife, especially light cutter like Nimravus at 60 or even 62HRC. So much potential is lost. Well, knives are sent, and I'll update revies later one I et thm back.

Sharpened two knives today. Swamp Rat Camp Tramp and Busse Skeleton Key. Much easier to sharpen than CPM-10V or those Japanese kitchen knives at 65HRC. Still, I did heavy reprofiling, spent almost 6 hours sharpening. New Naniwa 5000 grit stone turned out a real good one. Perfect initial polishing step.

Was a blast. Around 40 people showed up, Dave was hosting and answering variety of sharpening related questions. Basically wealth of knowledge and experience exchange, plus it was a lot of fun. I'll post on my blog upcoming events for sure. You can also check Dave's blog for that info, linked in this entry.
