Not being a designer, and having rather insufficient graphics design skillz that is a real pain to work on UI improvements. And my creativity in that area is lacking too. So far as you can see my idea of good looking UI is black/metallic. Anyway, both steel chart and steel graph got new control panels with vista Aero looks. There's still some quirks to work out, but overall I am happy :) That and I fixed minor bug in the generated HTML code syntax in the graph builder.

Fixed the bug in scaling algorithm of the steel comparison graph builder. The problem was that during the graph scale calculation all of the value groups were taken into account, while correct solution is to ignore the values that will not be included in the graph. Which is how it works now.

Fixed the bug that I found yesterday and mentioned in my last nite blog post. Alloys with a space in the name were unable to display notes tooltip. Works correctly now.

Actually newegg sucks. Charged me 3$ for expedited processing, which is hardly ever done by any other online dealer, just to "try to ship the same day"... Pfft, and still they delayed it by one day and send it today. Now, I won't get that by the weekend and upgrade will be delayed till the next weekend. Well, I guess I'll install the stock card as is on Monday and then see how it works until the weekend, and then install waterblock on the card, flash the coolant, replace some tubing may be...

Updated and expanded chemical compositions for the following steels: all of the ones in Wx group - W1, W2, W5; Adjusted composition and added more standard names to A2 steel; Set W content to 0 for A3 steel, which is the correct value, and added UNS standard name for it.

I figure this is minor, but if you were browsing the table for a while it could become a lot more annoying. Simply put, I've changed the notes tooltip popups form sticky to normal hover tooltips. Move the cursor outside of the name text and it'll disappear. No need to click Esc or mouse on the close button. Well, that and I found a bug, which I will fix tomorrow.

Added Swedish, Britan, German and Japanese standard names for the following steels: A2, W1, M2, O1, T15.

user interface enhancement so to speak. Simply put, I've added highlighting of the selected(checked) allows. You can spot selected rows easier. Obviously, unchecking the alloy removes the selection color and restores default background and text colors. The feature also handles properly browser back function. If you select particular alloys and build the graph for them, when(if) you return to the steel chart page via back button the original set will be checked and highlighted properly.

I was supposed to blog that long ago, but I kept forgetting. Anyway, on November 22nd, me and Fred Haakonsen finalized the details of my future custom knife from Vanadis 4E steel. High alloy, quite exotic steel. Main point of interest is the extremely high hardness, target is 66HRC and above. Obviously this will be a relatively small, ~100mm blade, but a very thin edge... That's the idea. We'll see how this will work.
